En esta ocasión, vamos a ver las diferencias de uso entre “Other”, “the other” y “Another”. Son bastantes fáciles de identificar, pero tenemos, que como siempre, llevar cuidado, ya que es uno de los errores más comunes para los que están empezando a estudiar inglés:
Other:
Se usa en el caso de que ya hayamos mencionado una alternativa.
Ejemplos:
- Some music calms people, other music has the opposite effect.
- Alex walked in and closed the door to the other bedroom.
- They admired the new foal and a few other horses.
The other
The other, se utiliza en el caso de que queramos dar una alernativa específica.
Ejemplo:
- I don´t like the red one, I prefer the other colour.
- I’d like the other cookie, the classic american cookie.
Another:
La diferencia entre other radica precisamente que al usar “another” tenemos que hacerlo como “uno más” dentro del tema del que estemos hablando/escribiendo.
Ejemplos:
- Would you like another cup of coffee?
- You´ve met Linda, but I have another sister who you haven´t met, called Margaret.
- I don’t like this place. Is there another café around here we could go to?
