Phrasal Verbs con TURN
Continuamos nuestra ronda de aprendizaje. Hoy analizamos el verbo «to turn». Desde encender dispositivos hasta rechazar ofertas, estos son los más usados en el día a día.
Turn around
SeparableSignificados: Dar la vuelta / Mejorar una situación.
— Turn around, I want to see your back.
— He turned my life around.
— We need to turn the score around.
Turn on
SeparableSignificados: Encender (dispositivos) / Excitar.
— Turn on the laptop.
— You’re turning me on.
— Piercings don’t turn me on.
Turn off
SeparableSignificados: Apagar (dispositivos) / Desmotivar o dar asco.
— Turn off the laptop.
— You turn me off.
— Her breath turned me off.
Turn up
SeparableSignificados: Subir el nivel (volumen/calor) / Aparecer.
— Turn up the volume.
— I can’t hear it, turn it up.
— They waited but they didn’t turn up.
Turn down
SeparableSignificados: Bajar el nivel / Rechazar a algo o alguien.
— Turn the volume down.
— I turned down the job offer.
— Did you turn it down?

Muchos estudiantes confunden Turn Up con llegar a un sitio. Aunque significa «aparecer», suele usarse cuando alguien llega inesperadamente o después de un retraso. ¡Úsalo y sonarás como un nativo!

Usa «Turn on» no solo para luces, también para suscitar interés.
