Volver a ser amigos

Hacer las paces o «enterrar el hacha de guerra».

«Anyway, I’d better go and make my peace with Ellie.»
«For now, the pair have buried the hatchet.»

Hacer borrón y cuenta nueva. Olvidar errores pasados para empezar de cero.

«I was prepared to forget about our differences and wipe the slate clean.»

Extender una rama de olivo: dar el primer paso para la paz.

«For a while, she appeared to be holding out an olive branch.»

British English

Calmar las aguas. Intervenir para suavizar una situación tensa.

«In my attempt to pour oil on troubled waters, I somehow made things worse.»

Cuando es imposible llegar a un acuerdo, se acepta que las opiniones son diferentes. También se dice «Agree to differ».

«I think we’ll just have to agree to differ on this one, Alex.»

Mantener la paz. Evitar activamente que otros discutan.

«My siblings don’t always get on so it’s my job to keep the peace.»

Lo pasado, pasado está. Olvidar ofensas antiguas.

«It’s been almost a decade since you two fell out. Can’t you just let bygones be bygones?»

Agua pasada. Conflictos que ya no tienen importancia hoy.

«We fell out over a guy when we were at college, but that’s water under the bridge now.»
