Empezamos una nueva categoría, dedicada a palabras especiales de cualquier índole (verbos, adjetivos, adverbios, sustantivos, etc…) que suelen usarse no tan a menudo, pero que considero que deberían ser usadas o ser, al menos, más conocidas entre los estudiantes de inglés.
El verbo “loom” puede tener varios significados diferentes dependiendo del contexto en el que se use. Algunas de sus definiciones más comunes incluyen:
- Emerger de forma amenazante o imponente: “The storm clouds loomed on the horizon, promising a fierce tempest.” (Las nubes de tormenta surgieron en el horizonte, prometiendo una tormenta feroz.)
- Aparecer como si fuera a suceder algo: “The threat of war loomed over the country.” (La amenaza de guerra se cernía sobre el país.)
- Estar visible de lejos: “The mountains loomed in the distance.” (Las montañas surgieron en la distancia.)
- Hacerse visible o aparente: “The solution to the problem began to loom in his mind.” (La solución al problema comenzó a aparecer en su mente.)

- As the deadline for the project approached, the possibility of failure loomed over the team.
- The mountain loomed over the valley, casting a long shadow in the early morning light.
- The deadline of the project loomed large, as the team had a hard time keeping up with the workload.
- The construction of the new skyscraper loomed over the city, signaling a new era of development and change.
- The ghost of the former CEO continued to loom over the company, as the new leadership struggled to fill the void left by their predecessor.
