«He was one of the most influential journalists of that era.»
«We took the momentous decision to sell our house.»
«The pandemic had a seismic effect on our business.»

«His words carry weight with the government.»

Prioridad Absoluta y Urgencia

«My overriding concern was for the safety of my passengers.»
«The needs of our children must be paramount in any decisions we make.»

Si algo ocupa tus pensamientos, está «uppermost in your mind» o «at the top of your agenda»:

  • «There is an urgent need to provide clean drinking water.»
  • «We have several pressing priorities.»
  • «The welfare of the animals was uppermost in his mind.»
  • «She put the fight against terrorism at the top of her agenda

Cuando se exagera la importancia

A veces alguien exagera. Podemos decir que están sacando algo de toda proporción («blowing it out of all proportion») o haciendo una montaña de un grano de arena:

Making a mountain out of a molehill

«It’s only a five-minute walk – I really think you’re making a mountain out of a molehill

Making a song and dance about it

(UK – Hacer demasiado alboroto)

«We forgot to invite her and now she’s making a big song and dance about it.»

Whatever you do…

«Whatever you do, don’t forget to take enough water.»

At all costs

«This area should be avoided at all costs
