Continuamos viendo las collocations más importantes de los verbos que más se utilizan. En esta ocasión vamos a ver los más utilizados con el verbo “pay”, que normalmente se utiliza a la hora de realizar transacciones, pero hay más, así que pay attention 😛
- Pay a fine – Pagar una multa
Ejemplo: I had to pay a fine of 200€ for smoking in a hospital.
- Pay attention – Prestar atención
Ejemplo: Pay attention! Look at me when I’m talking to you!
- Pay by card – Pagar con tarjeta (de crédito/débito)
Ejemplo: Would you like to pay by card today?
- Pay cash – Pagar en efectivo
Ejemplo: If you pay cash for this flight, you can get a 3% discount off the list price.
- Pay interest – Pagar intereses
Ejemplo: I have to pay 2% interest for my house’s mortgage.
- Pay someone a compliment – Decir algo bueno o positivo sobre alguien
Ejemplo: My boss paid me an enormous compliment
- Pay someone a visit – Visitar a alguien (durante poco tiempo) – Ir al baño (coloquial)
Ejemplo: I haven’t seen my sister since Christmas. It’s time to pay her a visit.
- Pay the bill – Pagar la factura
Ejemplo: I left the air conditioning on all August and now I cannot afford to pay the bill.
- Pay the price – Pagar el precio (de algo que has hecho)
Ejemplo: If you abuse your body now, you’ll pay the price when you’re older
- Pay your (last) respects – Mostrar o presentar respeto (normalmente al acudir a un funeral)
Ejemplo: At my father’s funeral, the whole neighborhood came out to pay their respects.
- Pay someone back – Devolver el dinero a alguien
Ejemplo: Has she paid you back the ticket concert?
