El verbo agree en un principio parece fácil de utilizar, creo que todo el mundo que esté leyendo este post coincidirá conmigo que significa “estar de acuerdo”. Pero hay pequeños matices a la hora de usar este verbo que hace que su definición cambie ligeramente dependiendo de a qué o a quién se refiere.
A continuación veremos esas pequeñas diferencias que pueden dejarnos un poco trastocados si no las aprendemos bien.
Agree with
Usamos agree with cuando nos referimos a una persona con la que compartimos la misma opinión.
Si alguien dice “I think it’s important to pass this exam” y estás de acuerdo con él o ella, puedes decir “I agree with you”, o “I agree” si lo ves más fácil de utilizar.
Un par de ejemplos:
- My father says eating well is very important, and I agree with him.
- I don’t agree with my brother when it comes to football.
Podemos decir tambien agree with o disagree with si nos refereimos a una decisión, artículo, opinión, o cualquier otra forma de comunicación:
Ejemplos:
- This is a well-researched book about Spanish Literature, and I agree with most of the points in it.
- My girlfriend support the payment of the taxes because she agree with her stance on the economy.
Agree on / about
Usamos agree on / about cuando nos referimos a un tema o plan.
Unos ejemplos:
- Everyone on the group agreed on a date for the meeting.
- My sister and I agree about the best way to earn more money.
- We can be lovers even if we don’t agree about everything.
Agree that
Usamos Agree that cuando es seguido por lo que estamos de acuerdo.
La diferencia con los ejemplos anteriores es que agree on/about es seguido por un nombre o una palabra interrogativa (question word) mientras que agree that es seguido por un sujeto + verbo, la forma -ING del verbo:
Ejemplos:
- She agreed that it was a great concert.
- I agree that saving 20% of your salary is a good idea if you can do it.
- He agrees that we should go out more often.
Agree to
Para usar agree to do correctamente, es necesario que después vaya seguido por un verbo, y en este caso significa que prometes realizar una acción:
Ejemplos:
- We all agreed to meet up at 6:00.
- She’s so lazy, she never agrees to help out.
- I lent him money and he agreed to pay me back next week.
También se utiliza agree to (the terms of a contract); en este caso el significado es que damos nuestro consentimiento, o que lo aceptamos :
- I think I never agreed to this price increase.
Y recordad: Nunca se debe decir “I’m agree” hay que decir siempre “I agree” que sino luego nos matan 😛
