Hoy vamos a ver las colocaciones más utilizadas con el verbo “To tell”. Como bien sabéis, ya hemos visto unas cuantas “collocations” (y que podéis ver aquí), por lo que nunca viene mal hacer un poco de autopromoción para no perderse.
De vuelta a lo que importa. Las colocaciones utilizadas con este verbo son muy fáciles, se utilizan mucho, y se aprenden muy rápido:
Tell a Lie – Decir mentiras / Mentir
- He is such an honest and clever boy that he never tells a lie.
- They fight viciously and tell lies to get each other into trouble.
- The answer to their dilemma is sometimes to tell a lie.
Tell a story – Contar una historia
- My aunt used to tell me stories about when she was young.
- Dad tells us bedtime stories every night.
- Gather (a)round and I’ll tell you a story.
Tell a secret – Contar un secreto
- I want to tell y ou a bug secret.
- Come over here. Alma wants to tell you a secret.
- Ginés has always been very good at telling stories.
Tell a joke – Decir una broma / Bromear
- Let her tell a joke.
- He’s marvellous at telling jokes.
- He’s always playing jokes at people.
Tell the truth – Decir la verdad
- I want to tell the truth about my daughter.
- I’m sure she’s telling the truth.
- The kids must learn how to tell the truth and listen.
Tell the difference – Saber la diferencia / Distinguir
- Please tell the difference between good and bad things.
- They’re so alike. I can’t tell the difference.
- Can you tell me the difference between apes and monkeys?
Tell somebody’s name – Decir el nombre
- If I win the award, I’ll tell you name first on the stage.
- The girl refused to tell me her name.
Tell someone’s future – Predecir el futuro
- At the fair, there was a woman who told my future.
